Solar by State

How we make content

Last updated 7 October 2026

Data first

The numbers come from public sources, refreshed with a script: solar production from PVGIS (European Commission Joint Research Centre) using the NSRDB satellite data, residential electricity prices from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, and median installed prices from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Themethodology page shows every assumption.

State rules

How each state credits exported solar power, and which incentives are open, comes from the state utility commission, state law or the utilities' own tariff pages, listed at the end of each state page.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help research and draft. A person checks each rule and figure against the sources listed on the page and edits the text before it is published. We do not publish testimonials or reviews of installers.

Corrections

If a rule has changed, write to hello@solarbystate.com with the source and we will fix it.
