About Solar by State
Solar by State is a small, independent site run from Valencia, Spain. It answers one question for US homeowners: does rooftop solar pay for itself where you live, now that the 30% federal tax credit has ended?
The answer depends on three numbers that vary a lot from state to state: how much power a panel produces, what your utility charges for electricity, and how it credits the power you send back to the grid. We take the first from PVGIS (with the NSRDB solar radiation data), the second from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, installed costs from Berkeley Lab, and the export rules from each state's utility commission. Every page links to them.
What we are not
We do not sell solar, take referral fees from installers or pass your details to anyone. A real quote depends on your roof, shading and utility; use the calculator with your own numbers and compare at least two quotes.
